CHURCH INFORMATION
The Journey Baptist Church is a small, Southern Baptist fellowship located in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Founded in 2011 as a house church, The Journey has grown into a welcoming and diverse community of Christ-followers committed to Biblical integrity, spiritual transformation, and an informal, contemporary worship style.
Elizabethtown—just 50 minutes from Louisville and 15 minutes from Fort Knox—is a vibrant, family-friendly city of approximately 30,000 residents. Known as “E-town,” the area offers scenic neighborhoods, a historic downtown, beautiful parks, and strong business, recreational, and educational opportunities. It’s a great place to live and serve.
POSITION SUMMARY
We are prayerfully seeking a part-time Worship Leader (5–10 hours/week) who will use their musical and spiritual gifts to lead and grow our worship ministries. The Worship Leader will cultivate an environment of Christ-centered worship that encourages our congregation to engage in fruitful service for the glory of God—locally and beyond—as we enter a new season of ministry.

Reports To: Senior Pastor
Supervises: Worship team members, media team, instruments, and worship/media equipment
Compensation: $75–$125/week (negotiable based on experience and qualifications)
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The responsibilities of the worship Pastor may be outlined in terms as follows:
- Serve as lead worshiper, setting the tone for authentic, Spirit-led worship.
- Must be available on Sunday mornings for setup, rehearsal, and leading worship during the service, in addition to participating in one weekly worship team rehearsal and engaging in broader church life and ministry as needed.
- Plan and lead corporate worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor, approaching each service with prayerful preparation, theological soundness, creative variety, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Ensure all musical and technical elements are thoughtfully coordinated, well-rehearsed, and effectively executed to support the overall theme of the service.
- Coordinate all aspects of the worship ministry to function cohesively, including song and choral selection, media preparation and presentation, sound and lighting, and the organization of all vocalists, instrumentalists, and other participants.
- Recruit, develop, and equip worship and media team members to effectively carry out the worship ministry of The Journey Church.
- Actively promote and support the worship ministry’s mission, vision, and individual components in alignment with the broader community and goals of The Journey Church.
- Research and incorporate new, doctrinally sound music to keep worship dynamic and relevant, while serving as a passionate and adaptable advocate for the worship ministry and all its components.
- Oversee the worship ministry’s budget, organization, and volunteer teams.
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual support for all members of the worship ministry.
- Invest time in building relationships with those who do not know Christ in order to effectively pursue the Great Commission and lead the church in doing the same.
- Build relationships with local musicians, studios, and organizations for both evangelistic outreach and potential staffing opportunities.
- Serve as an elder and collaborate with the Elder Board in making decisions that support the spiritual direction, health, and day-to-day function of the church.
- Set and evaluate short- and long-term goals for the worship ministry in alignment with the church’s mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
Spiritual
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a growing personal relationship with him expressed by ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, individual worship, and fellowship.
- A commitment to spiritual disciplines including prayer, Scripture, worship, and fellowship.
- Alignment with the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of The Journey Church.
- A shepherd’s heart for the spiritual growth of others, especially within the worship ministry.
- A Spirit-led life that exemplifies 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 and a willing spirit in the lifelong pursuit of sanctification.
Professional
- Demonstrated experience leading worship (minimum: 2 years preferred) or formal music education. (Minimum: associate’s degree or 60 credit hours in a related field)
- Musical proficiency is required, including the ability to lead vocalists and instrumentalists during rehearsals and Sunday services; the ability to play an instrument is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with worship technology: sound, lighting, presentation software, and video projection.
- Must affirm the church’s commitment to structuring worship services according to Scripture (the regulative principle of worship) and be willing to plan services that reflect that foundation.
- Must be comfortable with public speaking and able to communicate clearly in front of the congregation as a regular part of worship leadership—including Scripture reading, public prayer, and guiding the church in weekly worship.
- Must demonstrate consistent availability for weekly music rehearsals, Sunday morning services (including setup and pre-service practice), and active participation in church events and ministry gatherings beyond Sunday mornings.
- Agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message (2000) and Journey Church bylaws.
