Parameters of the Position

Second Baptist Church will hire a Director of Student Ministries. The Director will work part time (20 hours/week) and will be paid a salary that is to be determined. This position does not include benefits.

The Director will provide oversight, direction and leadership of both Middle and High School Ministries for youth fellowship meetings and other programmed events. The primary focus will be to function as the shepherd over SBC students, parents and key leadership.

 

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctrinal agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000
  • Character that is above reproach and is an example in godliness
  • A passion for student ministry
  • Willingness to become an involved member at Second Baptist Church
  • A proven work ethic and dependability demonstrated through prior or current work experience
  • A flexible schedule that allows you to lead evening and weekend youth events
  • Ability to reach and connect with students with various personalities and interests
  • Intentionality in developing mentoring relationships with students. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Seminary degree in Christian Ministry or Biblical Studies
  • Previous experience in ministry, especially student ministry
  • Lives in or near Hopkinsville, KY

 

Position Overview

  • Overseeing Youth Sunday School and weekly student meetings
  • Planning and leading quarterly student activities/events
  • Developing close, mentoring relationships with students and their parents
  • Coordinate special events such as Summer Camp, Retreats, Mission Work, etc.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Communicate Student Ministry details to the pastoral staff in a timely manner
  • Report at monthly business meetings regarding the activities, achievements and needs of the Student Ministry
  • Participate in home and hospital visitation
  • Plan and implement a budget for the Student Ministry
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor

 

Student Ministry Responsibilities

  • Teach the Word of God accurately
  • Lead parents of students to be effective, Biblical parents and primary leaders in their homes
  • Equip students to understand what it means to be fully devoted followers of Jesus
  • Encourage students to create an outreach culture among their peers
  • Develop a weekly Bible Study open to all students
  • Be responsible for the planning, leading and executing of regular worship geared specifically to students
  • Successfully assimilate new students into the youth group
  • Encourage students to participate in the full ministries of the church
  • Develop volunteer leaders who will lead in the discipling of students
  • Work within the annual student ministry budget, and wisely administer that budget
  • Institute protocols that protect the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of students
