Purpose of the Music Director

 

The objective of the music director shall be to lead the church to praise, exalt, and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ by magnifying the message of salvation in song. The music director will lead believers in corporate worship using music that serves as a true companion to the ministry of the spoken word.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The music director will ultimately be responsible to the pastor. The pastor, shall approve all matters relating to the music director’s job.

 

In consultation with the pastor, plan provide and direct music for all worship services and church wide events. As noted in the purpose statement above, all music should complement and serve as a true companion to the ministry of the spoken word.

 

Oversee the development and maintenance of the choral music program.

 

Plan, organize and administer special presentations and productions including, (but not limited to) Easter musicals, Christmas musicals, music camps, choir retreats, competitions, tours, and other seasonal musical events when necessary.

 

Supervise instrumentalists.

 

Assist in the hiring and selection of paid music ministry employees.

 

Planning and administering of all music rehearsals. The music director shall lead weekly rehearsals of the choir, praise team, and instrumentalists as necessary.

 

Acquiring and distributing music to participants in the music ministry.

 

It shall be the music director’s responsibility to keep the church in compliance with all copyright laws and regulations.

 

Enlist and develop talented individuals and encourage their participation in the music ministry of the church.

 

Schedule all soloists, small groups and choirs to perform in worship services and special events.

 

Plan and administer times of fellowship, spiritual development and technical training for music ministry participants.

 

Be responsible for establishing and maintaining the music ministry budget, subject to approval by the finance committee.

 

Must be faithful in church attendance, be active in our evangelism program, be a part of small group Bible study, and be willing to assist the pastor in prospect and member visitation.

 

Attend a weekly staff meeting as well as keeping the pastor up to date on the daily progress of the music ministry.

 

Reserve all necessary facilities in advance and make all necessary arrangements for musical events and activities.

 

Provide the church secretary with a printed order of worship each week.

 

Communicate and work closely with media team to ensure weekly worship needs are covered.

 

Other duties as specified by the pastor.

 

III. Qualifications

 

Must be a born again believer with a daily walk with the Lord.

 

Must affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

 

Must be gifted musically, with the ability to lead workshop vocally through singing.

 

Must be a member of New Brandenburg Southern Baptist Church, or be willing to unite with the church soon after being hired.
