Role

The Senior Pastor of Northside Baptist Church cultivates a relationship with Jesus Christ, serves under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and promotes the authority and infallibility of Scripture. The Pastor has the responsibility of administering the day-to-day operation of the church with the assistance of a church staff. The Pastor serves as the executive officer, mentor, and supervisor of Church staff. The Pastor also receives assistance from the Church Deacons and various Committee Chairs as they support him in watching over the ministries of the church. He leads the church, with congregational support, to organization missions, evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and prayer, and proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers. 

Responsibilities

Preaching

Prepare and deliver dynamic, biblically sound, and engaging exegetical sermons that incorporate culture and context with practical applications.

Plan and conduct worship services that motivate, equip, and nurture the people of the Church through example, preaching and teaching God’s word. 

Fulfill the primary preacher/teacher role within the Church. 

Maintain a regular schedule for personal study, sermon preparation, Bible study preparation and spiritual development of the congregation. 

Leadership

Work with the Church Body, Deacons, Committee Chairs, and other key leadership to carry out the mission and purpose of the Church. 

Develop and foster dynamic relationships with the staff. He will supervise, develop, holds accountable for performance goals, and creates an environment for healthy relationships with the staff and congregation. 

Build a sense of teamwork among church staff and committee chairs. Lead regular staff meetings to coordinate the ministries of the church and facilitate communication around the needs of the congregation.

Delegate tasks to appropriate staff members or committees, as necessary. 

Provide leadership to evangelism and discipleship ministries in coordination with staff, committees, and volunteers including Sunday school, Wednesday evening programs, and special programs.

Lead the Church in an effective program of witnessing, outreach, and mission work.

Communicate with the congregation through various media like articles or announcements, written and spoken using email, church newsletters, bulletins, social media, business meetings and/or worship services.

Oversee, along with Deacons, all Church discipline matters and the management of conflict issues in the church.

Vision

Seek the Lord’s guidance in developing a vision for life and ministry 

Communicate the vision and encourage others to embody and live it out 

Develop and implement processes and practices to carry out the vision of the Church  

Foster a vision of partnership with Church Committees and Staff to ensure policies and standard operating procedures for the church are developed, updated, and followed.

 

Pastoral 

Demonstrate the heart of a shepherd by actively guiding, loving, and nurturing our community.

Practice and model personal witness and evangelism in the community, leading and equipping Church members to share their faith, giving an invitation during worship services, as appropriate.

Speak the truth in love, willing to have difficult conversations for the benefit of others and the glory of God.

Visit and minister to members and prospective members in homes, nursing care facilities, and hospitals.

Cooperate with the local association, state convention, and Southern Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concern. Represent the Church in civic matters.

 

Qualifications 

The Pastor will be a man of established and true Christian character, qualified to preach and teach the Word of God, as described in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.

He must be an ordained Southern Baptist minister who has graduated from an accredited seminary and his statement of faith must be consistent with the Southern Baptist Convention's Baptist Faith and Message, 2000

Relevant education, MDiv preferred (or equivalent

Experienced executive; possess the leadership traits to coordinate the efforts of the Deacons, Committee Chairs, Church Staff and congregation. 

 

Compensation 

Salary is commensurate with education and experience
