Qualifications & Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities -
Responsible to the church to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach the Bible, engage in pastoral care ministries, and provide oversight of all areas of church life and the ministerial staff.
Theological Agreement
– Align teachings in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000 revision).
Discipleship & Mission
– Ensures the church is challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Pastoral Roles:
Overseer
– Provide leadership, vision, and direction (1 Timothy 3:1-7).
Evangelist
– Demonstrates a personal commitment to evangelism. (2 Timothy 4:5).
Shepherd
– Models the heart of the Chief Shepherd and ensures the care, protection, and spiritual nourishment of the congregation (Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:1-4).
Preacher/Teacher
– Communicate God’s Word for spiritual growth (Acts 6:4, Ephesians 4:11).
Discipleship
– Develop and empower leaders for ministry by discovering, developing, and deploying their spiritual gifts. (Ephesians 4:12, 2 Timothy 2:2, 1 Peter 5:1-3).
Spiritual Calling & Character
Called by God and set apart for ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).
Demonstrates strong moral character, compassion, and high competency as set forth in scripture.
Ordained by a body of believers, led by the Holy Spirit (Acts 20:28, Titus 1:5, 1 Timothy 3:1).
Church Operations & Administration
Oversee worship services, special events, and church programs.
Oversee and develop staff, ensuring they have the resources to serve effectively.
Conduct weddings, funerals, pastoral counseling, and other related activities.
Cooperate with the associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and support the work of Southern Baptist Missions and Cooperative Program.
Work with church leadership to set vision, direction, and mission alignment.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Full responsibility for church operations in a dynamic environment.
Must handle complex issues, make sound decisions, and manage multiple tasks.
Flexible work schedule with long, irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.
Education
Masters of Divinity preferred
Compensation
Based on experience and qualifications. Parsonage included
Experience
Senior Pastor experience preferred.
