Qualifications
A pastor selected and called by the church will have the following minimum qualifications: He will have experienced a definite call of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the gospel ministry; be sound in all doctrine and have a clear understanding of the scriptures; be a Southern Baptist pastor duly ordained and licensed to the gospel ministry. (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9)
Duties
A pastor’s duties are as follows: to conduct the worship services of the church; to preside over all church meetings; to preach the gospel (Acts 6:4, Ephesians 4:11, 1 Timothy 5:17, 2 Timothy 4:2); to shepherd and equip the flock (Acts 20:28, Ephesians 4:12); to minister and serve the church membership in Christian love and to be the spiritual leader of the church (1 Peter 5:1-3); to administer the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:30, Luke 22:19-20, 1 Corinthians 11:23-30) and believer’s baptism (Matthew 28:18-20).
The pastor will regularly visit the membership of the church, particularly the sick and distressed, and visit and extend an invitation to prospective members. He will cooperate fully with the deacons, trustees, Sunday School director, and all other committees and organizations of the church. He will be responsible for the supervision of the church staff and employees, coordinating their activities as directed by the church.
