Bardwell Baptist Church is a growing Southern Baptist Church who holds to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and is prayerfully searching for a full-time associate pastor of students and discipleship. This position will serve under the direction of the senior pastor to help advance the mission of Bardwell Baptist Church which is to, “Make disciples of Jesus by gathering together, growing in our faith, and going to make disciples of Jesus.” This position will serve to shepherd children, youth, and discipleship ministries.
Qualifications
- Is a born-again believer having made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, has been baptized by immersion as a believer, and can give evidence that they have been born-again.
- Maintains a life of devotion to Christ through daily prayer, Scripture intake, personal evangelism, and tithing.
- Gives evidence to God’s call into full-time ministry by meeting the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:1-3, and Ephesians 4:11-12, and has been ordained by a local church (Acts 13:1-3; 14:26-27).
- Is in complete agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Shows evidence of control by the Holy Spirit in all aspects of personal life and ministry.
- Able to preach expository sermons.
- Possesses the ability to maintain a healthy balance between work and family.
- Is a positive, resilient leader who is passionate about the Great Commission and who loves the church.
- Demonstrates mature judgement, integrity, and well-developed leadership skills.
- Possess the ability to lovingly set expectations and hold individuals under their supervision accountable for results and the achievement of set goals.
- Able to lead and organize events that further the mission of the church.
- Is committed to being a team player who will work to advance the Great Commission.
- Preferred experience in pastoral ministry.
- Preferred bachelor’s degree/and or master’s degree in ministry or currently pursuing theological training.
Responsibilities Overview:
Under the direction of the senior pastor, the associate pastor of students and discipleship will oversee the children’s ministry, be hands-on with the youth ministry, and assist the senior pastor with discipleship.
Responsibilities:
Children
- Oversee the children’s ministry to ensure the ministry is focused on the mission statement of the church, ensure proper volunteer staffing and training, and ensure the proper promotion of all events.
Youth
- Lead the youth ministry, including recruiting and training of volunteers, and promoting all events.
- Teach a youth Sunday School class and teach the entire youth on Wednesday nights.
- Create a student/youth ministry focused on making disciples of Jesus which includes:
- Provide a monthly activity that has a balance of teaching, fellowship, outreach, and service.
- Lead, organize, and promote two weekends per year focused on discipleship.
- Lead, organize, and promote summer camp for students, including fundraisers.
Discipleship
- Assist the pastor with assimilation of guests and new members into our discipleship pathway, which is worship attendance, Sunday School attendance, participation in a D-Group, and serving in a ministry.
- Oversee Sunday School, including assisting the pastor to recruit and train new Sunday School teachers (taking the place of Sunday School Director).
- Oversee and assist the pastor with the D-Group ministry (taking the place of Discipleship Director).
- Assist the pastor with counseling, including providing counseling to students and children.
- Assist the pastor with shut in and hospital visitation.
- Fill the pulpit in the pastor’s absence as needed.
- Serve in harmony with the church staff.
- Participate in staff meetings.
