What We're Looking For in Our Next Pastor
A Passionate, Bible-Based Preacher:
Our congregation places the utmost importance on the faithful exposition of Scripture. We are seeking a pastor who is gifted in delivering expository preaching that is Spirit-led, exegetically sound, relatable, and applicable to daily life. You should have a deep love for God's Word and a conviction to preach it with clarity and power.
A Shepherd with a Heart for Pastoral Care:
We also deeply value a pastor who demonstrates compassionate care for our church family. This includes a willingness to walk alongside members during times of joy and sorrow, offering spiritual guidance, counseling, visitation, and prayer.
Intentional Leadership and Direction for Growth:
We are looking for a leader who can provide clear leadership and direction for our church's ministries and vision, with an eye towards spiritual and numerical growth. This involves working collaboratively with the church deacons and various ministry teams, guiding us in making prayerful decisions, fostering unity within the body of Christ, and seeking new ways to reach our community for the Kingdom.
Commitment to Facilitating Discipleship:
Beyond the pulpit, we desire a pastor dedicated to facilitating and supporting discipleship opportunities, helping our members grow in their faith and understanding of Christian principles. We also seek a pastor who recognizes the importance of student ministry (children and youth), and is passionate about nurturing the spiritual development of the next generation within our church. Finally, we take our Lord's great commission seriously and want to grow as a missional church with our community, state, and the world as our mission ground.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary preacher for weekly worship services, delivering engaging and biblically faithful messages.
- Provide pastoral care, including visitation, counseling, and support to church members in need.
- Work collaboratively with church leadership to cast vision, set goals, and guide the church in its mission, with a focus on church growth.
- Facilitate and oversee Christian education and discipleship efforts for all ages.
- Officiate weddings, funerals, and baptisms as needed.
- Participate in denominational activities and associations (Southern Baptist Convention, Kentucky Baptist Convention, North Central Baptist Network).
Qualifications
- Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a calling to pastoral ministry.
- Agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Biblical education (seminary degree preferred, but not required with demonstrated theological understanding and experience).
- Demonstrated gifting in biblical preaching and teaching.
- Experience in pastoral care and leadership, with a vision for church growth.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A heart for a small church in a rural setting, and a desire to see it thrive.
